DELHI HIGH COURT URGED THE CENTRE TO ACT ON THE UNIFORM CIVIL CODE
The court in Satprakash Meena vs. Alka Meena observed that due to the rapid transformation of the Indian society it has become necessary for the Centre to act upon the Uniform Civil Code provided under Art. 44 in regards to the matters of marriages and divorce. This is because the youth in the country belong to different religions and tribes and they face problems due to different personal laws during marriage and divorce.
PLEA CHALLENGING PECUNIARY JURISDICTION UNDER CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT FILED IN THE SUPREME COURT
A plea has been filed challenging the pecuniary jurisdiction of the consumer courts under CPA, 2019. Under the previous act, jurisdiction was determined on the “amount claimed”. However, under the new act, the jurisdiction is determined on the basis of “consideration paid at the time of purchase”. Petitioners argue such a rule is irrational and arbitrary and can lead to anomalies.
IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW PRIVACY POLICY DELAYED TILL ENACTMENT OF PRIVACY LAW: WHATSAPP
Whatsapp today in its statement to the Delhi High Court stated that they have delayed the implementation of the new privacy policy which has been heavily opposed in India till the data protection and privacy law is not enacted in India. Further they also stated that users who have not accepted the policy can use the platform and there will be no limitation on the functionality of the app.

KERALA HIGH COURT SUO MOTO CASE ON ANIMAL CRUELTY
The Kerala High Court registered a suo moto case on the prevention of animal cruelty under the name of :In re:Bruno”. This comes after a video came out showing three teenagers killing a dog named Bruno in a horrifying manner on a beach in Thiruvananthapuram. The Bench stated “We feel that this could be a fitting tribute to the hapless dog that succumbed to the acts of human cruelty, and disturbed by which incident we had initiated these proceedings.
PUNJAB AND HARYANA COURT FINDS KEEPING PRISONERS IN JAIL CELL FOR 22 HOURS STRAIGHT ILLEGAL
The Punjab and Haryana High Court held that keeping hardcore prisoners in cell for 22 hours straight everyday is illegal, impermissible, and unconstitutional. They said that the term life under Article 21 means more than mere animal existence and by the above act it is violative of Article 21 of the Constitution of India.
TRAI'S 2020 ORDER ON TARIFFS UPHELD
Bombay High Court upheld the validity of a 2020 order on tariffs by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The order decreased the tariffs paid by the customers on network capacity fee. Earlier customers had to pay Rs 130 for free-to-air channels and for additional channels extra tariff was to be paid. Under the new rules a customer gets 200 channels for Rs 130. However, the Bombay High Court struck down the provision limiting the price discrimination of a channel.
TWITTER APPOINTED INTERIM COMPLIANCE OFFICER UNDER NEW IT RULES
The US based company Twitter has in its statement on Tuesday that an Interim Compliance Officer for which the details will be shared with the ministry and the public. This came after the IT ministry sent a notice to the social media giant for complying with the IT rules otherwise failure to do so will lead to losing exemptions under section 79 the IT act.
ALL PROCEEDINGS UNDER BOTH ACCUSED IN THE ENRICA LEXIE CASE QUASHED BY SC
SC has quashed all proceedings against both Italian marines accused of killing two fishermen belonging to Kerala in International waters in 2012. A compensation of total 10 Cr as compensation to the family of the fisherman given by the Italian Govt. This came after the Permanent court of arbitration held that the case will not be tried in India and the marines will face criminal proceedings in Italian courts.

The Supreme Court reversed the judgment held "In Re Problems and Miseries of Migrant Workers (also known as Suo Moto judgment)", by mandating all states to implement one nation one ration card scheme.

Mahatma Gandhi’s great granddaughter Ashish Lata Ramgobin is sentenced to a jail term of 7 years by a durban court. She has been found guilty of committing fraud to a tune of R6.2 million on the pretext of clearing import and custom duties for consignments which did not exist.
LAWYERS PRACTICING IN THE SUPREME COURT CAN BE CONSIDERED FOR ELEVATION TO HIGH COURT JUDGES
The CJI has accepted the proposal of the Supreme Court Bar Association to elevate Lawyers practicing in the SC to high court judges.
“The undersigned is pleased to inform you that the Hon'ble CJI has agreed to the request made by SCBA and has requested the Chief Justices of the High Courts to consider lawyers practicing in the Supreme Court for elevation to their High Courts.”

The Supreme Court states "land grabbers can't take refuge under rule of law and talk of fairness". Though the case of rehabilitation of these illegal inhabitants is subject to separate consideration.
PETITION SEEKING TO DECLARE LUDO AS GAME OF “LUCK” INSTEAD OF “SKILL” FILED IN BOMBAY HC
A petition filed in Bombay HC seeks to declare online Ludo Game as a game of luck and not as skill. It is stated that the outcome of the dice once rolled cannot be predicted and hence is not a skill and should be seen as gambling. The state government is to file a reply by 22 june. This comes after the number of users have increased on the platforms due to the pandemic.

G7 NATIONS SIGN A PACT- GLOBAL TAX SYSTEM SET FOR REFORMATION
The minimum global corp tax, as decided by G7 nations, is set at 15%. The pact has been put forward to fight tax avoidance and to ensure fair market equilibrium. UOI held that Pvt Unaided Institutions under the Right to Education (RTE Act) discharge a public duty as prescribed under Article 21A of the constitution hence fall under writ jurisdiction under Article 226. However, a petition under Article 226 against them can be sought only when the issue raised is part of public law and not private law.

The Delhi High Court refused to pass an interim order against Ramdev for the remarks he made against allopathy. The court said "We have something called Article 19(1)(a) in the country".
DELHI HIGH COURT DISMISSED THE LAWSUIT AGAINST 5G WIRELESS NETWORK
A lawsuit filed by Juhi Chawla in the Delhi HC against the setting up of 5G wireless network has been dismissed. The court imposed a fine of Rs. 20 Lakhs and stated that the suit was “abusing the process of law”. The court also said that it is a publicity stunt by the actor/environmentalist.
SC ENTRY OF DEBT IN BALANCE SHEET AMOUNTS TO ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF LIABILITY
The apex court reiterated that after case by case examination, if a debt has been shown under the balance sheet of the company, it can amount to acknowledgement of liability by the company. Hence an extension of the limitation period will take place under Section 18 of the Limitation Act.
APPEAL PETITION FILED FOR ALLOWING CENTRAL VISTA PROJECT
An appeal against the Delhi High Court order has been filed in the Supreme Court. The High Court order allowed continuous construction of the Central Vista project in Delhi during the Covid times as "essential activity".
CENTRE APPROVES MODEL TENANCY ACT
The Centre has given approval to the Model Tenancy Act by allowing for its adoption to States and Union Territories. This Act aims to build a better relationship of trust between the tenant and the landlord by outlining their obligations. The spiral effect of the approval requires the State and the UTs to either amend or enact new legislation to ensure consistency.
HC ALLOWS ABORTION OF WOMEN HAVING TRIPLETS
The Bombay High court first time allowed a pregnant woman with triplets to abort her entire pregnancy under the Medical Termination Pregnancy Act citing morbidity of unborn triplets and the effect on mental health of the woman. The decision was taken on a report submitted by J.J. Group of Hospitals.
RBI SAYS SC 2020 ORDER OVERRULES RBI’S 2018 ORDER ON CRYPTOCURRENCY BAN
Coming as a relief and hope of light for cryptocurrency investors, RBI said that banks should not warn the investors against dealing in cryptocurrency. The 2018 order prohibiting the same was set aside by the Supreme Court in 2020. However, the banks should follow the customer due diligence according to the laws of India.
